MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR), the organisers of F3 Cup, are pleased to announce a revised class structure for 2016, which will provide more accessibility to the world of Formula 3 racing.
The new class, to be called F3 Open, will allow drivers to compete in a Formula 3 chassis manufactured after 1st January 2005 (including the latest 2012 models) but with a ‘stock’ normally aspirated 2000cc engine*. As with the current classes, drivers will be required to run control Pirelli tyres and Sunoco fuel, with free ride height. In its inaugural year, the class will not be eligible for the overall title but will have its own bespoke prize package.
Technical details will be released in the coming weeks but the new class is intended to reduce the expense of F3 engine maintenance. F3-specific engines can require costly rebuilds after a number of hours running, which has been a hindrance to drivers looking to move up to this level of single seater racing.
MSVR’s Race Operations Manager David Scott said, “In the five seasons MSVR has administered F3 Cup, a number of drivers have raised the issue of engine maintenance costs. With F3 Cup being the only dedicated Formula 3 category in the UK we feel it is important, now more than ever before, to enable as many people as possible to sample the thrill of high-level single seater racing, whatever their budget. The new F3 Open class will provide an even lower cost option to race these amazing machines on the UK’s best circuits.”
A second change to the class structure will see the older cars of the Cup Class joining the Trophy Class, as the newer 2008-2011 chassis, introduced for the 2015 season, gain popularity. The class structure will thus comprise:
– Cup Class for cars from 2005-2011
– Trophy Class for cars from 1997-2004
– Masters Class for cars from 1981-1996
– F3 Open Class for cars from 2005 onwards running ‘stock’ 2000cc normally aspirated engines* (details to be confirmed)
As in previous years, cars which do not fall into the criteria above will be permitted to run in the Invitation Class at the organisers’ discretion.
A superb 2016 calendar is in the planning and will be available shortly. The UK’s premier circuits will once again feature, including Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Silverstone.
*Engine type and specification at the organisers’ discretion

The Monoposto AGM and the 2015 Awards Ceremony with Dinner & Disco will take place on Saturday 30th January 2016.
Following the reserves we had on the grid at last years event, we have booked the bigger circuit (County Suite) allowing for many more starters. This suite has better garages, a private entrance and is directly attached to the Hotel thus saving getting your race suit wet if it is raining.
Your Clerk of Course for this meeting is Terry Clark and after his super summer BBQ at Brands Hatch this should be another event ‘not to miss’!
This years disco comes highly rated on the recommendation of the noisiest party loving team in the paddock ( clue: 4 letters, begins in A, has something to do with an ex bread van and a chicken)

Parking up.
Our parking up man will be Tim.. don’t think he will be very challenged with only Mono and GTCup!
Podiums and Presentations.
We will have photo opportunities on the podium for each class after each race using the ‘dummy’ trophies. The podium is located between the entry end of the pitlane and the parc ferme… so nice and handy for friends and family to get photos.
The full presentation with the real trophies will take place back at the Mono Hub soon after our last race (so between 5.00 and 5.15pm). A great chance to say farewell to everyone (unless you are attending the Tiedeman final rounds at Donington) after a great year of racing and to give a big THANK YOU to my team who have made it all possible.
Safety car
Hope we really don’t need any of these, but after the issues at Donington (both from the officials side and the drivers side) plus the recent problems in MSA Formula, expect the topic of safety car procedures to come up at our briefings – reminder, you do NOT overtake until past the line on a restart.
Exclusive Practice
20 min exclusive Mono practice negotiated with MSVR.
This is 20 mins practice on the morning of Saturday 10th October (well we only race on the Saturday!) for £80.
It is ONLY one session for Mono so it will be ‘1st come .. ‘ (41 slots available) in terms of bookings TO RACHEL please.
No forms, just make sure Rachel knows if you want to enter this session.
It will be mixed Mono. So if you don’t want to run with classes you don’t race with, please don’t enter – your normal race day will continue as planned.
Scrutineering
Oulton Park represents the final rounds of the 2015 Monoposto Championship (the Tiedeman Trophy Championship wraps up in 7th November at Donington) and there is all to play for in several classes with numerous possible champions still mathematically possible. I am personally delighted we have reached this stage without significant eligibility or judicial elements clouding the championship and in keeping with other championships I have raced in, we will be sealing some engines for possible detailed inspection in the period following the different final rounds (sealing on the day, inspections by arrangement to follow) so that fairness continues to be seen to be done..
In addition, Championship Reg 5.13.3 regarding using a single set of slick tyres in 2000 and Classic will be in action at Oulton where we certainly hope this lovely weather will still be around. Tyres will be marked at scrutineering…. Steven Connor.

Entry List Summary Donington v5
NO RESERVES
Friday is a Trackday NOT a test day… Testing is available on Thursday.
PS: No power in the paddock
We have had a notification from the council as they will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing work on the roundabout of A453, Ashby Road, DHL/East Midlands Airport Island, Castle Donington.
Therefore Ashby road will be closed to all through traffic from the junction with The Green to the traffic light junction with Hill Top. This will begin on 18th September for a period of 4 days between the hours of 09:30am and 16:30pm each day.
The council have published a planned Diversion Map
Here is a Google of the area, Donington in top left of map. As I see this, the A453 from the M1 past the Airport (going West from J23A) will be closed. Therefore access is from the other end of the A453 at its junction with the A42 and I assume that coming North or South on the M1 you will need to go round the A42 and then up the A453 at Tonge.
;
Just a general reminder that anyone using radios at Donington on September 19/20 will need to register their frequencies in advance due to the proximity of East Midlands Airport (for use in the paddock only of course pit to car not allowed in Mono).

Track Limits.
For the avoidance of doubt, the green concrete areas are ‘off limits’ and will be monitored for potential track limits violations.
I understand our fellow racers (FF1600s) are being called to a drivers briefing because of the large number of track limit penalties issued the last time they raced – apparently some 5, 10 & 15sec penalties, with some podium places lost as a result. Notably it is the 2 chicanes at The Esses and Bobbies that cause the most issues, being very inviting to straightline over the kerbs. Despite our F1 colleagues being able to drive fully off the track at Spa last weekend, we are required to stay inside the track limits or receive penalties.
Alister Poulter will be our Scrutineer and Gary Tanner our Clerk of Course – so both know Mono very well after we behaved so nicely for them at Brands earlier in the month!
CCRC report we can get in during Sunday… they have a couple of things going on but Jo and her team will try to accommodate us. Combe paddock does not have 240v power – so the Mono Hub urn will be on gas again.
Times Summary:
Sign on 8.35 in race control… Scrutineering 8.45 in the bay … qualifying 10.05 on the track!
First Mono race 13.40 with trophies on podium after………. Second Mono race 16.45 with trophies on podium.
AWARDS with Tiedeman Champion of Castle Combe awarded approx 45 mins after end of our second race (so at approx 17.45) at the Mono Hub
Part of the 31st August 2015 CCRC Bank Holiday Meeting
Our normal Mono MSVR passes WILL NOT be in use. Tickets have been supplied by CCRC and being sent out by Rachel at MAC.
Easy one this time.. just one grid, all on the one day – 1 x qualifying and 2 x races. Race 1 result will set race 2 grid (for those of you old enough to remember, the old ‘racing ahead’ format from over a decade ago) – just something different from the main series (pros and cons doing it each way I know).
Trophies will be awarded as:
1-2-3 overall (on the podium) for each of the 2 races.
End of day, 1-2-3 for the combined 2 races based on the class point system in the regulations – thus any class competitor could be the Tiedeman Champion of Combe.
End of day, Driver of the Day for the driver who improved the most places from original qualifying position to race 2 finish.

Chairman of the Technical Committee Russ Giles outlines the technical decisions taken at a recent board meeting.
There were a number of technical and class changes confirmed that we wish to share with the membership as soon as possible.
- The 2 Litre cars will be split in to 3 classes rather than the existing 2. Names of these classes need to be confirmed but are summarised below.
- Classic – Pre 93 only, including all FVL’s
- New class – Post 92 non F3 cars and F3 cars 93 to 96
- 2000 – Post 97 F3 cars and all FRS 16v cars
- There will be a list of approved rain lights issued by the club. It will be compulsory to use a rain light from this list as of next year.
- The Formula Renault 2.0L 16V 2000 onwards car will cease to be eligible for any class from 1 Jan 2017
- Note that the 95 to 99 8V cars will continue to be eligible
- As previously announced, the eligibility date for 2000 will move forward on 1 Jan 2017 to allow cars up to 2007 to be used.
- The Dtec class will not continue next year but the cars will be found a home in another class.
If you need any more information regarding the above, please contact Steven, Russ or your class reps who will be pleased to help.
